In this stove plate, Adam and Eve are shown in Eden under the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. They are being tempted to partake of the fruits of the tree by the crafty serpent dangling from a branch of the tree, apple in mouth. Beneath the scene are inscribed Adam und Efa and the date, 1745. Detail is excellent throughout. The “returns” on both sides of the plate are parts of the original casting, which was loaned to us by the museum at Crailo State Historical Site in Renssalaer, New York.
