This stove plate is especially interesting because its German inscription is credited to the wrong biblical chapter. Das Weib des sucht  Joseph zu entzunde I (h)m is actually from the 39th chapter, 13th verse rather than the inscribed 13th chapter.

Shown on the plate is Potiphar’s wife, grasping Joseph’s coat as he springs from bed.

Dated 1749, this stove side-plate was probably cast in eastern Pennsylvania.
