Depicted on this plate is an early colonial wedding
in which the groom wears a long frock-coat and the
bride a full-pleated skirt and tight bodice. A pastor
in a broadbrimmed hat performs the ceremony under
two angels.
This unusually well preserved plate with its clearly
defined design and lettering is the front of a
five-plate stove manufactured by the Marlbro Furnace in
the Shenandoah Valley. In our reproduction, the corner
rims receiving the side plates have been removed. An
original can be seen at the Bucks County Historical
Society in Pennsylvania.
